The greatest adventure I ever began was in reply to these two simple words—“Follow Me”. Treading on the heels of those same words is where I find my deepest pleasure in fulfilling purpose. It is also where I live the truest adventure!
“And He said to them, ‘Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.’” Matthew 4:19
In following Him I must be committed—with devotion, with determination—whole heartedly: Focused on the prize set before me.
“If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” Matthew 19:21
God is not asking me to set aside my life. He simply asks me to make Jesus master over it.
“for some have already turned aside to follow Satan.” 1 Timothy 5:15
I am to follow God and His lead. I cannot try to lead Him where I want to go.
“Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned.” 2 Peter 2:2
It’s simple—“Follow Me”.
Where He urges me to serve—I follow the urging.
What He stirs in me to say—I follow the stirring.
What He inspires me to write—I follow the inspiration.
Where He invites me to come—I follow the invitation.
Where He opens a closed door—I follow the opening.
Where He convicts me of sin—I follow the convicting.
When He encourages me to trust—I follow the encouragement.
When He speaks to me, His beloved—I follow Who is speaking!
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27
I let Him do all the planning. I let Him do all the preparation. I let Him do all the work. I wait for Him to get the next step ready for me to step in; then I follow. He goes before me.
“He goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.” John 10:4
He is the God of my past, my present and my future. Nothing surprises Him. Nothing catches Him off-guard.
“Follow in His steps.” 1 Peter 2:21b
I am to follow Him faithfully. My faithfulness is found as I follow.
“These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These have been purchased from among men as first fruits to God and to the Lamb.” Rev. 14:4
There are not a lot of steps. Not a list of rules to follow.
“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23
I will know God in knowing Jesus; so I come. I hear Him calling—“Follow Me!”
