This Saturday I am attending a retreat where we’ve been asked to share our favorite verse. Ummm...please tell me I’m not the only one out there without a favorite verse?
I love that people have “life verses” and all—my daughter has a beautiful one that she thought and prayed over for some time before deciding on. I have a friend who receives a new verse from the Lord at the beginning of each new year and she has found it to be perfect for her for that entire year.
It just seems for me...and maybe for my life, my temperament, my personality, my struggles—I just can’t seem to pick ONE! Now...4 or 5 or 12 or 18 maybe, but not just one. J
There are so many beautiful wordings, so many covenantal promises, so many lovely statements of mercy and grace, so much encouragement and so much exhortation in the Bible that I just can’t pick one to call the best of the rest.
Last year...this verse was my daily meditation...
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5, 6
There’s the one I shared just the other day...
“These things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day!” Habakkuk 2:3
My daughter’s verse and one I love as well...
“Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all the day long.” Psalm 24:4, 5
And then all of these...
“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the person who seeks Him.” Lam. 3:25
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
“Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Col.
“The Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” Psalm 147:11
“I love the Lord because He hears and answers my prayers. Because He bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I have breath.” Psalm 116: 1, 2
“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thes. 5:16-18
And so many, many more!
This is why I say... “ya can’t pick just one!” At least this one can’t! J
But I will leave you with one more...one that is very powerful as well as comforting. I guess if I was forced TO choose just one—this would be it...today...
“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
He IS with me—I feel His Presence and I hear His voice!
He IS saving me—minute by minute...in body, soul & spirit—for eternity in Paradise, but for my time earthside as well!
He IS delighting in me—I am His beloved creation!
He DOES quiet me—with His steadfast love and unending promises!
He DOES rejoice over me—and just the mere thought of that truth draws me ever closer to His heart!
