Psalm For Today ~ Psalm 18

“’I love Thee, O Lord, my strength.’ The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord...and I am saved.... I called upon the Lord...He heard my voice...my cry for help before Him came into His ears.” (Psalm 18:1-3, 6)

Oh my--just look at the list we are given here...

~ My strength
~ My rock
~ My fortress
~ My deliverer
~ My God
~ My rock
(this is repeated, which in scripture emphasizes its importance!)
~ My refuge
~ My shield
~ My salvation
~ My stronghold

This is all from the first two verses of the chapter!

When I call upon the Lord, He hears my voice. He hears my cries for His help. My cries come into His ears and I am saved!

“The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.” (verse 20)

“The Lord has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.” (verse 24)

God rewards us according to our righteousness. When we keep the ways of the Lord we know that He hears our cries and we may depend on His protection and strength.

“With the kind Thou dost show Thyself kind; with the blameless Thou dost show Thyself blameless; with the pure Thou dost show Thyself pure; and with the crooked Thou dost show Thyself astute.” (verses 25-26)

God responds to us as we respond to Him!

“As for God, His way is blameless (complete, having integrity); The word of the Lord is tried; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. For who is God, but the lord? And who is a rock, except our God, The God who girds me with strength, and makes my way blameless (complete, having integrity). (verses 30-32)

There He is again...our shield, our refuge, our rock, our strength!

“The Lord lives, and blessed by my rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation. He delivers me...Thou dost lift me...Thou dost rescue me.... I will give thanks to Thee...and I will sing praises to Thy name.” (verses 46, 48, 49)

Yes, Father, I do give you thanks and sing praises of worship to your name! I give you the praise and glory for all of my victories. I am grateful that my trust is in You, the living God, who hears me, protects me and delivers me. May Your name be exalted! All glory and honor and praise to Your Holy Name forever...Amen!
